Important Dates
· Audition requests: Tuesday, November 22, 2011
· Audition times distributed: Tuesday, November 29, 2011
· Auditions: Saturday, December 3, 2011
· High School Chorus membership finalized and emailed to directors: Monday, December 12, 2011
· Music mailed to choral directors: Monday, December 12, 2011
· Rehearsal: Friday, February 24 (evening) and Saturday, February 25, 2012 (morning and afternoon)
· Performance: Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Kings High School.
Please note that we will audition for the high school Honor Chorus this year.
1. Auditions will be held at Fairfield Middle School on December 3, 2011 for Honor Chorus. Auditions will be the same date and location as those for the Honor Band. Questions concerning auditions should be directed to David Beck david.beck@wilmington.k12.oh.us (937-283-7230) chairman of this event.
2. You are invited to send as many students as you want to audition for this event. Auditions will consist of singing from a prepared piece of music (attached) and a short sight reading segment. A sample of the audition piece is available in PDF and MP3 format download at my choral webpage or you may email or call me (David Beck) for a copy. Also included on this web page is a helpful YouTube link with an audio of the King's Singers performing the audition song and a display of the written music as it is being performed.
3. Please instruct your students to prepare multiple voice parts for his/her audition. i.e. Sopranos prepare both soprano and alto voice parts, basses prepare both bass and tenor parts. Since this audition piece is SSATB, students auditioning as a soprano may choose to sing BOTH soprano 1 and soprano 2 if they so desire. The students will need to prepare verse 1 with repeats. (This will end at the handwritten, circled “4” on the attached copy.)
4. Please submit audition time requests to David Beck by Tuesday, November 22nd. Please use the attached spreadsheet to write the information for each student auditioning and return it via email. The audition schedule will be sent to directors via email by 8 AM on Tuesday, November 29th. A $3 audition fee will be collected from each student on the audition date.
5. Once the membership of the high school honor chorus is determined, more information will be mailed to each participating director. It is the responsibility of the director to make certain each student under his/her tutelage receives the appropriate information.
6. Cost for each participant is $25.00. This includes a pizza lunch on the performance date. NO ADDITIONAL MONEY IS NEEDED FOR THE EVENT.
7. This year again, the rehearsals and performance will be held at Kings High School. Maps will be sent to all participants after the auditions.
8. Dr. Richard Schnipke from The Ohio State University will be joining us again as our guest conductor. This event is an outstanding musical learning experience for students. Please consider having your students audition!
