Greater Cincinnati Jazz Clinic

Information for the 2012 Greater Cincinnati Summer Jazz Clinic is now available! All students who are interested in jazz and will be in grades 7-9 next year are welcome to participate. Rising seventh grade students should have at least six months worth of experience on their instruments in order to feel comfortable with the music that will be played. The event will take place at Kings High School from June 25-29 from 9am-noon each day. Registration is due by Friday, June 8 for any student who would like a t-shirt. May Festival Choral-Orchestral Conducting Workshop

The May Festival Choral-Orchestral Conducting Workshop still has openings for observers and the deadline has been extended to March 15.
This all-day workshop on March 24 is designed for Choral Conductors, Music Educators and Church Musicians who want to strengthen their instrumental conducting technique. The Workshop is free, but reservations are required. Lunch will be provided. CEU Certificates will be available at the end of the workshop for Educators. All of the information can be found in the attached application. Please share this information with those who might be interested in attending.

Please MARK YOUR CALENDARS. We will have a Spring meeting on Tuesday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Mason Middle School Choir Room. An agenda will be sent as we get closer to the meeting. Please plan to be there as we will be discussing and making decisions regarding our district activities for the 2012-2013 school year.

Middletown Music Club Scholarship

Middletown Music Club is pleased to announce its 2012 scholarship auditions. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize local talent and support the continuation of music study. The auditions are open to area high school seniors, graduating in 2012, who are planning to pursue a career in music. Applicants must complete and submit the enclosed application, participate in a panel interview and perform an instrumental or vocal piece.

The scholarship auditions consist of two parts: an interview and a performance audition. Both will take place Thursday, April 19, 2012. Interviews will be 6:00-7:00 p.m. Auditions will be 7:00-8:00 p.m. at:

Scholarship: $500. (Can be divided among applicants at the judges’ discretion).

• The interview: judges will ask applicants about their academic involvement, training, background and goals.
• Performance audition: prepare one instrumental or vocal selection, preferably from the OMEA high school solo and ensemble repertoire list. Three copies of the piece should be provided for the judges.
• Musical performances will be open to the public.
• The winner(s) of the scholarship will be announced that evening. Applicants should bring a headshot for winner publicity.
